now at five. >> pam: fire on the freeway, chaos for commuters on the bay bridge. three hours three to four hours mucho trafico >> pam: no matter how you say it, the backkup from big rig fire is just now easing up. this is a live look at the bridge traffic now, from treasure island. all lanes now re-opened -- but the lasting impact still being felt. we have a reporter monitoring the conditions for us. but first, catherine heenan >> catherine: is here. to show us how the big rig fire played out this morning. >> catherine: let's look at the scene. this is the view from down below the big rig.as it was still burning. this is westbound 80 - right before the 5th street off- ramp.in downtown san >> catherine: this was such a mess.it might have been 'worse' than a bart strike.in terms of traffic on the bay bridge. >> pam: >> pam: because of a flat tire about 5:45 a-m. he pulled over to the right shoulder and got out -- and spotted smoke coming from the engine. fortunately - he ran away from the truck - because

only a short time later -- it was engulfed in flames. he was not injured - and the c-h-p calls him 'very the truck had been hauling sushi, rice, vinegar and destroyed. two and three lanes of westbound 80 were closed for hours. let's give you a look at the aftermath. >> catherine: the shell of the truck. it was so badly burned.there's not much left.and the c-h-p says it may never be known why that engine caught fire. pam? >> pam: a live look at traffic on the bridge right now. kron4's charles clifford is there tonight monitoring the commute. charles? -- si >> reporter:the clean up of the debris >> pam: from that fire took nearly nine hours. >> pam: kron 4's maureen kelly explains why crews needed so much time to get rid of the mess. >> reporter:the chp says many steps had be taken to safely remove the charred remains of the big rig. it was so badly burned that it couldn't just be hooked

up and hauled away because it could have disingrated littering spreading the mess around even further.so instead the semi had to be dismantled. after the fuel was offloaded in to these blue barrels. >> reporter:the tractor and the trailer were separated.the cab going first onto the back of a flatbed tow truck. what was left of the truck's cargo was cleared awayby hand, by shovel.and by a front loaderthe trailer was hauling.rice.which was made heavier after absorbing water from the fireproducts related to sushiand a vinegrette dressingwhich you can see here in these bags.many of the bags burst.giving the caltrans crews a different kind of oil to clean up than they are used to dealing with. sand had to be put down to absorb the salad dressing mixed with water used to put out fireand then sweep up.the trailer.which was mostly just a frame.had to be carefully lifted up.an alley before the freeway was closed with yellow caution tape.in case any of the burned metal broke away. that too went onto another flatbed tow truckand flattened down before being towed away.the bulk gone.caltrans crews could start sweeping up what was left of the sand and debris.the roadway.which had been examined by

this time it is a-c transit. just tonight -- a notice was given by workers. to alert the public. kron4's haaziq madyun has the details. >> reporter:a 72-hour strike notice has been given to ac transit by its union employees here at atu-local- 192 >> reporter:union leaders say they are concerned over the slow pace of progress made during negotiations since the current contract ended on july 31stwith main sticking points being monetary compensation and healthcare contribution >> reporter:for their partac transit officials say.negotiations are ongoing and they are not sure why the union issued the 72-hour strike notice because from management's perspective significant progress has been madeparticularly in the area of wages and healthcarehowever unless something changesin between now and wednesday at 12:01amac transit's 200,000 daily riders will have no bus service if workers go through with the strikein oakalnd haaziq madyun kron4news

>> reporter: our team coverage continues now. kron4's terisa estacio reports from the walnut creek bart station. >> reporter: well pam i'd just got off the phone with the governor's office and they tell me that they are hoping that this investigation will lead them down the right past and come to an agreement at this point. still a lot to be done. california governor jerry brown was about to take rank as the call for 7 day investigation for the bart labor dispute. must continue to run during that period. the panel will meet on wednesday by the end of the week issued a report to the governor with their findings. if nothing is done
